
The survey is believed to be the first one which covers Nikkei all over the world. According to the estimates by the Association of Japanese and Nikkei Abroad, the total number of Nikkei in the world is roughly 3,800,000.
Most of the researches on Nikkei so far have been done in the Americas where a large number of Nikkei are concentrated.
The Nippon Foundation is trying to figure out what young Nikkei think and use the results of the survey to establish better relationships between Japan and the Nikkei communities around the world.
In the audio, Ikuko Ookubo from The Nippon Foundation explains the reasons why they decided to start the survey and she also describes the changes happening in the Nikkei communities.
Also, Mayu Kanamori, one of the founding members of Nikkei Australia, explains about the history of Nikkei in Australia and what the global survey means to them.
The online questionnaire of the survey will finish on the 15th of April.
