Japan investigates 700 foreign students missing from college

It has recently been reported that 700 foreign students from University in Tokyo have gone missing last year. The number could be approximately 1300 in total the past 3 years.


More and more students are attracted to go and study in Japan, especially from Australia, China, South Korea and Southeast Asian countries. Last year, Japanese government has passed the law to bring a number of foreign workers in recent years in response to the ageing workforce in Japan.

According to NHK, Tokyo University of Social Welfare is being investigated as over 700 foreign students have gone missing in Japan. These students are mostly from Vietnam and Nepal, studying at Oji Campus of the University.
The issue has been raised in House of Councilors Budget Committee on the 18th. Mr Michihiro Ishibashi, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan said that the last three years, there are over 1300 foreign students in total lost contact with the University, therefore they have been expelled from school.
