Shonen Knife, the all-female Japanese band from Osaka, will tour Australia and New Zealand from October 18 to November 16.

Shonen Knife was formed in 1981 and their 40th anniversary is speedily approaching.

Naoko, the founder and the vocalist of the band, told SBS Japanese how the band has stayed popular for so long.

Looking back, she said that she has focussed on the tasks immediately before her, completing them one by one, rather than making a long-term plan for herself and the band.

In the audio interview at the top of this article, Naoko shares her memories of past Australian tours, talks about the unique style of the band, and her difficulties with writing lyrics.

Their tour, Sweet Candy Australia/NewZealand style 2019, will start on October 18 in Adelaide and finish on November 16 in Fremantle.
