“Japanese tea has a rich tradition and history, and is often seen as requiring extra time and effort to enjoy. But I wanted to simplify the way people in modern day society drink Japanese tea," said Madoka Mills, owner of online Japanese tea shop Cha Haus.
Everyone has a good idea of traditional Japanese tea ceremony, Sado. It is a ritual of sitting down, preparing and serving tea such as matcha together with sweets. It has a rich history, said to be started in Kamakura Era, 12th-14th century.
Madoka has always loved Japanese tea. When she moved to Australia, a friend of hers asked her to see if she could obtain good quality authentic tea from Japan. That's when it all started. She and her partner tracked down various farms in Japan and met passionate tea growers. They also met tea masters who created their own blend of Japanese tea. Madoka says that she likes to offer the tea that Japanese growers drink with their own families to the Australian public.
