Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been sentenced to almost a year’s jail for breaching his bail conditions.

Julian Assange is perhaps the world’s best-known bail-jumper.

At his sentencing he was told it is difficult to envisage a more serious example of the offense.

He had spent nearly seven years in the Ecuadorian embassy avoiding justice, fearful of extradition to the United States.

In court, with his hair cut and beard trimmed, he apologized for his actions.

He wrote that he found himself struggling with terrifying circumstances for which neither he nor those from whom he sought advice could work out any remedy.
