A new pay deal for Australia's national women's football team is being widely hailed as a landmark moment in women's sport. Football Federation Australia announced the Matildas will be paid the same as their male counterparts, the Socceroos.
It's an equal pay breakthrough that would mean the Matildas no longer play second fiddle to male footballers. Under the arrangement, the Matildas and the Socceroos will also reportedly share commercial revenue and prize money evenly.
