The sound of a drone taking flight is music to the ears of former pilot Tom Caska, whose drone business is now offering work to thousands of airline pilots – many of them grounded during the pandemic.
Tom Caska knows first-hand how hard it is to have your wings clipped.
After flying with a major airline for 8 years his career as a commercial pilot was halted, when he broke his neck in a kite-surfing accident in Cairns in 2013.
While Tom is not only walking again but cycling in marathons, the journey back was long and hard. During rehabilitation he took up flying drones.
With business partner Rakesh Routhu, who previously ran a drone business in his homeland, India.
Their startup Aerologix is working with the Royal Flying Doctor Service on a trial delivering medical supplies to outback New South Wales.
The trial is expected to start later this year, and still needs final aviation approval.
It will use long-distance drones made in Germany and capable of covering vast distances.
