Shizuka Kashima, a Japanese violinist and singer-songwriter, flew to Sydney to perform for the Matsuri Japan Festival in Darling Harbour.

Shizuka was appointed by her home-town Higashi-Matsuyama City in Miyagi, Japan as one of the Ambassadors in Charge of Reconstruction of Higashi-Matsuyama, which was devastated by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011.

Shizuka hoped that her performance would bring Sydneysiders' attention and support to Higashi-Matsuyama and other affected areas.

This year's Matsuri Japan Festival has another guest from Japan, a dance team from Kuroishi city in Aomori.  The mayor of Kuroishi himself joined the team as a dancer.
