Melbourne-based Japanese artist integrates two very different Japanese cultures - Butoh and The Way of Tea

Japanese Butoh artist Yumi Umiumare moved to Melbourne in 1993. Ms Umiumare is visiting Sydney to attend her joint interactive exhibition titled 'Coffee & SerendipiTEA' at the Banktown Arts Centre. She held a Butoh workshop in Sydney as part of the exhibition. Japanese Butoh dance and the Japanese tea ceremony. What do these two have in common?


In the audio, Ms Umiumare explains what Butoh is and how it started, how she interpreted the art, and her strong interest in Japanese the Way of Tea.
