Prime Minister Scott Morrison seems to be preparing the groundwork for pre-election mode.
He's taking his new energy investments to voters in the heart of coal country.
Mr Morrison announced funding for a clean hydrogen hub in Newcastle.
"Hydrogen is one of those great technological opportunities for Australia, which is recognised all around the world. When I was in Glasgow recently, it is understood - you want to get hydrogen, this is the place to get it. And this is why we need to invest here in places like the Hunter because we make it work here, it will work in so many like (similar) regions all around the country. Our plans to move to a lower emissions future very much have the Hunter at the centre of our thinking."
The federal government is investing $1.5 million dollars into a feasibility study on its potential.
It's part of the Coalition's technology solution sales pitch to meet its net-zero commitment by 2050.
The Prime Minister's domestic tour comes just days after his international one.
At the climate change conference in Glasgow, Mr Morrison announced mid-century carbon cuts, but didn't change the mid-term target or join international pledges to drastically reduce methane emissions and phase out coal-fired power.
