The 30th International Short Film Festival, Flickerfest, is Australia’s only Academy® Qualifying & BAFTA Recognised short film festival

 One documentary film from Japan has been chosen.

The title is “Kata”, which means Karate form.

The film shows the mind of 13 year old Mahiro Takano, who is an unprecedented 6 year in-a-row national ‘Kata’ Karate form champion,

 The director, James Latimer, is a film director based  in Tokyo, Japan.

He moved to Japan in 2012, started learning Japanese and worked as photographer.

His passion for storytelling made him study film making.

 “Kata” is his third film.

The premiere is at 18:30, 24th January at  Bondi Beach.

 In an audio interview, he tells us his goals through his films.

 
About Mahiro Takano;

She is a 6 year in-a-row national ‘Kata’, Karate form champion in her age group,

 In 2015, (when she was 9 years old) the music video of “Alive” by Sia made her famous.
