Voters give first debate to Shorten as trust in politicians is at a 50-year low

Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Opposition Leader Bill Shorten have clashed on a number of issues in the first leader's debate of the 2019 federal election debate.

Of the 48 undecided voters in the room for the debate, a majority marked Mr Shorten as the victor on the night.

When Australians head to the polls on May 18, more people will cast a vote than ever before.

But while enrollment numbers are at record highs - the trust voters have in politicians has hit a 50 year low.
