Risa came from Japan on a working holiday visa in 2011 and studying English in Australia. She met her future husband, Dan who was a farmer in a small town of Gippsland, 195km east of Melbourne. Quickly the romance blossomed. They, now the family of three, live in the 54 acre land with 60 sheep, 800 chickens and their pets.

“I love what I do”, said a former veterinary nurse from Osaka, Risa Green. She is married to an Australian farmer and owns a business selling grass-fed lamb and free range eggs at markets in Melbourne. There are hardly any Japanese people around in the area, she is surrounded mostly by Australian dairy farmers with strong Aussie accent. She has quickly adapted its lifestyle and settled down. She speaks to SBS what it is like to live as a farmer’s wife in rural Victoria.
