“I believe it's chef’s responsibility to add value to odd shaped fruits and vegetables that don’t end up in the supermarket shelves.”

Yuta Funaoka is known as the personal chef for Japanese soccer player Keisuke Honda. Prior to becoming Honda's chef, he was trained to specialise in French cuisine. He worked for several renowned restaurants at such a young age not just in Japan but also in France. He thought he was the best and could do anything.

However, one day, four of his assistants decided to quit his restaurant. Then, he realised that he became arrogant. He spent much time reflecting upon his mistakes and realised how important it is to respect and care for others.

Not only to open his own restaurant in Japan, but also Yuta has a dream to work towards reducing food loss and waste in Japan to support local farmers.
