Stroke Foundation is promoting National Stroke Week from September 12th to 18th to create an awareness in the population about the risks of having a stroke and how it could be avoided. Statistics say 1 in 6 people will have a stroke in their lifetime and one stroke occurs every 10 minutes.
Stroke is one of Australias biggest killers and a leading cause of disability. It also kills more women than breast cancer and more men than prostate cancer. SBS spoke to Dr Sumana Gopinath, Neurologist to know the causes, prevention of the disease and the therapy for stroke victims.
