The documentary titled "Karen Senior Former Leaders and Elders' Life Journeys Documentary" was launched on the 28th of June, 2019. It includes interviews with 19 Karen former leaders and elders as well as a former leader of Karenni.
Mahn Chit Lu from the documentary project working group said that many former Karen leaders had devoted and sacrificed their lives for the liberty and freedom of the Karen people, but many are deceased with little or no acknowledgments. So the aim of documenting former leaders and elders life journeys is to preserve the histories of the Karen people and to pass it on to the younger generation.
Karen is one of the ethics group in Myanmar that fought against the Burmese military for their self-determination.
Mahn Chit Lu also said that the most interesting part of the documentary is about the misunderstanding among ethnic groups during post World War II. Some elders had recalled their experiences of witnessing the killing of children, wives and husbands.
The documentary project was organized and supported by Foundation House and Western Karen Elder Group, and funded by Hobsons Bay City Council.
