
Local authorities and Karen people from other states also attended the two days event, from the 3rd to 4th of January, that included cultural performances and entertainments.

During the celebration the event organisers also raised funds for those who have been affected by bushfires.

Karen New Year officially falls on the 1st day of the month of Pyathoe, S’gaw Karens call it “Th’lay” and “Htike Kauk Po” for Pwo Karens.

It is usually fall on December or January in western calendar.

The event was organised by Victoria Karen Communities Network Group and hosted by Australian Karen Organisation Victoria.
