Police have foiled a terrorist plot on Christmas Day at Melbourne C-B-D

Victoria Police say they have foiled a plot to commit a terrorist attack on Christmas Day at three locations in the Melbourne C-B-D.

Five search warrants were carried out this morning (Friday), seven arrests made, and five people remain in custody* for questioning.

Victoria Police Chief Commissioner (mr)Graham Ashton says the locations targeted included Federation Square, Flinders Street train station and St Paul's Cathedral.

He says a substantial number of people stood to have been killed or injured, if the attack had come to fruition.
