Execution numbers down in 2016: Amnesty

An international rights group says there were fewer executions recorded globally last year.

In its yearly report on the death penalty, Amnesty International says just over a thousand people were executed around the world in 2016.

 

But this figure does not include executions in China, where data on the death penalty is considered a state secret.
