After Prime Minister Hun Sen's threat to protesters in Sydney to follow them home and beat them up if they burn his effigy, there have been a lot of concerns raised by Labor MPs, even though no responses from Australian Federal Government.

The latest concern from NSW MP Luke Foley, on Wednesday 14th has calls for protections for peaceful protests against Cambodia PM Hun Sen at ASEAN-Australia Summit.

“I want this state’s Cambodian community to know that I stand with them. And I want them to know that in Commissioner Mick Fuller, the New South Wales police force has a Commissioner who will ensure that people engaged in lawful protest will be afforded the full protection of the law. “ said Foley.

Meanwhile, Heang Tak, a Victorian MP Candidate and the spokesman of Khmer community who is organizing the protest in Australia-ASEAN summit this weekend reaffirmed that “Burning the effigy is the rights of the protesters”.

"There could be up to thousands of Khmer community joining this weekend protest" added Tak, but he could not say whether they will burn the effigy or not.
