Samsung is recalling its flagship Galaxy Note 7 smartphone and says battery problems were behind phones catching fire.

The South Korean company has sold more than 2-million Galaxy Note 7 phones since the product was launched in 10 countries, two weeks ago.

The president of Samsung's mobile business, Koh Dong-jin, says 35 cases of burn damage caused by a defective battery cell have now been reported.

The recall will affect markets including Australia, South Korea and the US - but not China, where models feature a different battery.
