Bernice Kamikazi is a Burundian passionate about advocacy for refugees in Australia. Supported by the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), she is a recipient of the John Gibson Refugee Community Leadership Grant that allowed her to participate in the first Global Summit of Refugees in Geneva. With a focus on the Great Lakes region of Africa, Bernice shares her experience during the 10 days of Australian advocacy in Geneva (19-29 June 2018) which included the UNHCR’s annual NGO Consultations, global dialogue on refugee resettlement, and meetings with senior officials of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Human Rights Council and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
