Many people on welfare will experience a small lift in their payments from today.

Single pensioners will get an extra eight dollars and seventy cents per fortnight, whilst couples will get an additional thirteen dollars and twenty cents.

Unemployed people will get around two dollars more per week, and parenting payments will rise by around three dollars per week.

The raises come every six months to help people handle increases in living costs.

Pensions are linked to prices and wages, whilst unemployment payments are linked to the Consumer Price Index.

Some other payments and thresholds will rise next week.
