Australian archers Taylor Worth, Ryan Tyack and Alec Potts have captured Australia's first medal of the Rio Games.

In a thrilling display against China, the trio managed to secure a bronze medal.

Australia's gold medal hopes look set to peak later today in the pool, after dual Olympian Thomas Fraser-Holmes clocking 4:12.51 to qualify sixth fastest for the 400m individual medley final.

Dolphins teammate and Olympic rookie Travis Mahoney was seventh quickest in a personal best time of 4:13.37.

Meanwhile, the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay team broke their Olympic record set at the London Games to qualify fastest for the finals.
