Aussie recycling worth $328m a year

Australians are throwing away $328 million a year because of poor recycling practices, with one report calling for waste to be treated like iron ore.

Australia spent $2.8 billion exporting nearly 4.5 million tonnes of waste last year.

If Australia treated recycling waste like iron ore or coal the nation could be $300 million better off each year.

Instead, Australia makes just $4 million a year from recycling due to high levels of contamination in co-mingled recycling bins.
