A 102-year-old Australian woman has become the oldest skydiver in the world while also raising awareness for the disease that killed her daughter.

When Irene O'Shea clocked up 100 years, she decided to celebrate by taking an extreme leap of faith by going skydiving - and has celebrated every birthday since by jumping from a plane.

The South Australian woman took the plunge this year for charity, raising awareness for the Motor Neurone Disease Association of South Australia.

Ms O'Shea's daughter died of the disease several year ago and she told reporters she wanted to do something to give back.

But when asked if she was an adrenaline junkie, Ms O'Shea responded said she was just a normal 102-year-old.

“As far as I’m concerned I’m the same as everyone else, just a normal person," she said.
