Bayswater in Melbourne closed due to bomb squad investigation

Victoria police’s bomb squad investigates mysterious package looked like a pipe bomb found in a car in Melbourne.

Police say a package found in a vacant car and blown up by a bomb squad in Melbourne is not an explosive.

The bomb squad was called and performed a controlled explosion (7am)on a car with false number plates in the Melbourne suburb of Bayswater.

Senior Sergeant Paul Van Gemert says police initially suspected the car contained a package of explosive materials.
