It has been once again assured that Boxing Day embodies shopping bonanza.
According to the Australian Retailers Association representing retail groups in Australia, it is estimated that Australians will spend $2.53 billion today to kick off the annual post-Christmas retail sales period.
NSW is expecting to generate the largest sales, with the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) predicting a figure of more than $815 million.
Victoria is also expected to reach above $800 million ahead of Queensland with a predicated sales figure of $425 million.
Nationwide, the ARA have predicted a 2.86 per cent growth from last year.
Announcing Boxing Day retail forecasts from Sydney's Pitt Street Mall, ARA executive director Russell Zimmerman said the group predicted spending across Australia would rise despite the sluggish year the retail sector had experienced, and added that queues of people eager to strike early to find a good deal suggested a good start to post-Christmas sales.
