The seven-member K-pop boy group already won Top Social Artist for the third consecutive year earlier in the night, and now they've made history as the first ever K-pop group to win the award for Top Duo/Group.
BTS were nominated alongside Maroon 5, Imagine Dragons, Panic at the Disco and Dan + Shay.
In his speech, RM thanked ARMYs and the Billboard Music Awards saying: "I still can't believe we're here on this stage with so many great artists... this was only possible because of the little things we shared together, the BTS and ARMY power, am I right?"
He went on to say "We're still the same boys from six years ago, we still have the same dreams, we still have the same fears, we still have the same thoughts. Let's keep dreaming the best dreams together".
The Top Social Artist award is determined by fan votes and other nominees this year included GOT7, EXO, Ariana Grande and Louis Tomlinson. BTS have won the award in both 2017 and 2018. Justin Bieber held the award for six consecutive years prior to BTS’ history making win.
The 2019 Billboard Music Awards is also the first time BTS do a live collaboration with a western artist, performing "Boy With Luv" with Halsey.
