Croatian firefighters go viral after missing historic win for emergency

Croatia's history-making run at this World Cup has sent the entire nation into delirium, but while fans were glued to their TV screens watching their team play a few dedicated fire fighters had to answer the call of duty.

Fresh off the back of Croatia's historic defeat of England to reach the World Cup final, a viral video has emerged of firefighters watching their country's penalty shootout win over Russia in the quarter-finals.

With most donning the Croatian jersey, firefighters at the Zagreb Fire Department are filmed watching Ivan Rakitic as he steps up for the the final penalty as the emergency bell rings.

Without a moment's hesitation they all spring into action, get their protective gear on and launch into the fire truck all within seconds, missing the victorious moment.

A lucky few were able to stay behind and watch the crucial penalty which secured Croatia's semi-final berth.

The video has since gone viral with the firefighters hailed for their professionalism and dedication.

Croatia will now play in their first ever World Cup final where they will face a star-studded France side on Monday morning (AEST).
