The Refugee Action Coalition's Ian Rintoul says the refugees on Manus Island do not feel resettlement is an option.

"Well, they don't believe that there is a possibility of resettlement in the US. The guys at Manus have been told that they will only be considered once everyone on Nauru is dealt with," the Refugee Action Coalition's Ian Rintoul says.

Meanwhile, the devastated family of a Sudanese refugee who died after falling ill while in detention on Manus Island are demanding the Australian government return his body.

Detainees recently rioted and held a vigil at the Manus Island detention centre following the death of a Sudanese refugee, Faysal Ishak Ahmed.

The 27-year-old collapsed on Thursday (dec 22) and was evacuated to Brisbane but died in hospital on Christmas Eve.

Refugee advocates claim the 27-year-old had been ill for more than six months.
