The proportion of Australians receiving welfare payments has reached a 30-year low, the federal government says.

Fresh analysis of Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows 14.3 per cent of working age Australians were receiving welfare benefits in June 2018, compared to 15.1 per cent the previous year.

Social Services Minister Paul Fletcher says the figures show the coalition's plan for a stronger economy is working.
