High winds could push masses of red dirt into Sydney's sky in the coming days creating a red haze across the city's skies.

Dust storms continued to pummel regional NSW on Tuesday with warnings Sydney could be hit later in the week.

Parts of the state's west have been covered in dust, with Broken Hill copping much of the wild weather.

Forecasters are also closely monitoring a system headed towards the state and associated high winds that could pick up masses of loose dust caused by drought conditions.

"If it does happen it could have a big impact," Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Anita Pyne told AAP.

"Dust storms can effect transport and even stop planes from landing."
