End backpacker tax uncertainty: farmers

A delegation of farmers is in Canberra to urge parliamentarians to end the stalemate over the proposed backpacker legislation.

The legislation is up for debate in the upper house on Wednesday.

The federal government is sticking by its 19 per cent tax, having reduced it from the originally slated 32.5 per cent.

But Labor, Senator Jacqui Lambie and One Nation senators want it to be further lowered to 10.5 per cent.

National Farmers' Federation Chief Tony Mahar is calling on M-P's to promptly make a fair decision.
