New senator Derryn Hinch will meet Immigration Minister Peter Dutton this week to discuss his proposal to take passports away from pedophiles who travel to Asia for child sex tours.
Senator Hinch will also discuss this with the Department of Foreign Affairs.
He said that could be an early achievement from his move to politics.
"The fastest thing I can do .... is get the passports pulled for these convicted pedophiles who are doing the Asian child sex tours. That can be done within a few months. It's tangible," he told reporters in Canberra shortly after his first speech in the parliament.
Senator Hinch said a national register of convicted child sex offenders was going to be hard as that would involve gaining the agreement and co-operation of states and territories.
He said he would continue to name child sex offenders under parliamentary privilege, as he did during his first speech to the Senate.
"I have another case coming up, a shocking case of a convicted sex offender involving young boys working in fast food outlets," he said.
He denied he had misused parliamentary privilege.
"Impeccably, impeccably, haven't abused it at all, used it properly, proud of it and will do it again."
