Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam has announced the formal withdrawal of an extradition bill that triggered months of unrest and threw the Chinese-controlled city into its worst crisis in decades.
"The government of special administrative region will officially withdraw the bill and eradicate the worries of people, the security chief will propose a motion to withdraw the bill after the legislative meeting is back," Ms Lam said in pre-recorded televised address on Wednesday evening.
