Former federal Liberal candidate Jaymes Diaz plans to reignite his political career with a bid for local council.

Mr Diaz has nominated as a Liberal candidate for Blacktown City Council, along with his sister Jayneline and their father Jess, who is a current councillor.

Mr Diaz is best known for his inability to explain his party's "stop the boats" policy during a disastrous television interview while campaigning for the Sydney seat of Greenway in the 2013 election.

Blacktown's Labor Mayor Stephen Bali said councils shouldn't be allowed to be a private domain for family," he told AAP on Sunday.

"Out of five Liberals re-elected, do you want three from Diaz family who just do what Jess wants? It unfortunately brings the whole council into disrepute," he told AAP.

The contest is believed to be scheduled for next Sunday.

The Diaz family could not be reached for comment.
