The film ‘Stateless Things’ features social minorities growing up on the fringe of society in Korea through the two men, a North Korea defector Joon and a gay boy Hyun. Joon struggles to survive in Korea where no family and friends, even anyone who does him a favour. Hyun lives in a high-rise apartment kept by his old and married lover Sung-hoon, and wishes to escape from him. However in the end, these stateless, nameless and identity-less boys meet together and have the home that they have been looking for.
A 2014 Korean black comedy film, ‘Alice In Earnestland’ satirises our society where Soo-nam, called Alice lives. Soo-nam working as an assistant bookkeeper at a small factory was married to her colleague and hoped for a happy married life. However, after he lost his hearing and fingers at work, she worked three jobs such as cleaning services, kitchen assistance and paper route to survive and earn money. She aims to have her own house but the more she saves money, the more home prices rise. Soo-nam, becoming exhausted by this society, finally commits murders and goes insane.
