Labor heavyweight Anthony Albanese announces split from wife Carmel Tebbutt

Labor frontbencher Anthony Albanese and former NSW deputy premier Carmel Tebbutt have separated after more than 30 years together.

Senior Labor MP Anthony Albanese has split from his partner of more than 30 years, former NSW deputy premier Carmel Tebbutt.

The frontbencher has revealed the separation from his wife in a statement on Monday, saying he is "deeply saddened".

"We will continue to share parenting responsibilities of our 18-year-old son Nathan, who has successfully completed his HSC and has developed into an outstanding young man who we are both proud of," Mr Albanese said.

The MP said no third parties have been involved in the split.

Ms Tebbutt was a NSW Labor MP for 17 years before departing state politics in 2015.
