A man has climbed onto Sydney Harbour Bridge sparking a major police operation and causing traffic chaos for motorists and commuters.
Police are trying to negotiate with the man, who scaled the structure just after 4.30am on Wednesday, as emergency services wait on the ground.
"Police continue to speak with a man who climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge about 4.30am today. Some lanes have had to be closed as the man has moved about the structure; so please obey speed limits & traffic signals & watch out for emergency service officers on scene," a NSW Police read.
It's believed he left a bicycle in the middle of the road before making the climb, Nine Network reports.
As peak hour traffic builds, two of four northbound lanes on the bridge have been closed.
The southbound lanes toward the city are open with a reduced speed limit of 40km/h in both directions, the Transport Management Centre says.
Motorists are being told to using the Sydney Harbour Tunnel or Victoria Road and the Gladesville Bridge instead.
Buses across the bridge are delayed by up to 30 minutes but trains are running as normal so far.
Sydney Trains has also issued an alert that services on the North Shore Line and Northern line are running as normal.
