Refugee advocates allege two asylum seekers on the Manus Island detention centre have been arrested and assaulted by up to ten Papua New Guinean police and immigration officers.

The Refugee Coalition claims the two Iranian men suffered suspected broken bones on New Year's Eve but have not received any medical treatment.

The Department of Immigration says it is aware of the incident involving two asylum seekers but says it is a matter for P-N-G police.

But speaking to the A-B-C, the coalition's Ian Rintoul, says Australian authorities should investigate the incident.

Immigration Minister, Peter Dutton, has told 2-GB, it's not yet clear what happened at the Manus Island detention centre.
