Hundreds of people are expected to rally in Melbourne, calling for an end to violence against women after the death of Courtney Herron in an inner-city park.

The 25-year-old, found dead at Royal Park in May, was the fourth woman to be killed in a public place in the city in the past 12 months.

"These men felt they have the right to take a woman's life. What have we told the men in our society? Not only through our words, but our actions, and often, inactions," organisers of Saturday's protest wrote on Facebook.

The protesters plan to march from the State Library to Parliament House at midday.
