Pundit of Korean literature Hwang Sok-Yong visits Australia to host OB with SBS and public lecture

A guru in Korean contemporary literature, the renowned novelist Hwang Sok-Yong visits Sydney Hwang Sok-Yong in an invitation by the Korean Cutural Centre in Australia and holds an OB with SBS Korean Program and public lectures in Sydney.

Korean Cultural Centre AU invites Hwang Sok-Yong, the representative Korean writer, to hold events for three days from 7 to 9 March.

At 6 pm on 7 March, a meeting with writer will be held at Arirang Hall at the Korean Cultural Centre. This meeting will be broadcast by SBS Korean program.

A lecture on Korean literature will be held at 2 pm on 8 March for students majoring in Korean Studies at NSW State University. This lecture will be given to second-year students in regular Korean studies and is expected to provide students with an opportunity to talk about Korean literature in depth with a representative Korean writer.

At 2 pm on 9 March, ‘In conversation with Suzanne Leal’ will be held at the State Library of NSW.

Suzanne Leal is the author of novels The Teacher’s Secret and Border Street.  A lawyer experienced in child protection, criminal law and refugee law, Suzanne is a former legal commentator on ABC radio and a regular interviewer at Sydney Writers' Festival and other literary. Reservations for this event can be made at the State Library website.

Hwang  Sok-Yong was born in 1943 and is the recipient of Korea's highest literary prizes including the Manhae Literary Prize, the Danjae Literary Prize, the Isan Literary Prize, the Daesan Literature Prize for The Guest, the Manhae Literary Award Grand Prize, the Korea Culture and Arts Foundation 'This Year's' Art Prize, the Mark of Respect Award and was shortlisted for the Prix Femina Etranger. His novel The Road to Sampo (1973) was made into a successful film and will be reissued in French by Editions Philippe Picquier.
