Push to consult with Aboriginal groups and rename Melbourne’s Yarra River

Melbourne City Council could soon consult with Aboriginal leaders on a plan to rename the Yarra River, in the heart of the city.

The Yarra River flowing through the heart of Melbourne could soon take on an official Aboriginal name.

City of Melbourne Council is planning to consult Indigenous stakeholders on the idea, which could result in the Wurundjeri name "Birrarung" being officially used for the river.
