Rio 2016: Boomers keep Australia's basketball hopes alive

The Boomers have triumphed over Lithuania in their quarter-final match just a day after the Opals suffered a shocking defeat at the hands of Serbia.

The Boomers are still in the hunt after seeing off Lithuania in their quarter-final match.

The men's team was able to see off the Lithuanian team with ease, defeating them 90-64.

They will play either Croatia or Serbia in the semi-finals for the chance to reach a medal match.

Boomers' centre Andrew Bogut told olympics.com.au the team was playing well together.

"Because we believe, we believe we can beat teams," he said.

"It comes with our mindset, we’re a resilient group that plays hard. I’ve been on teams where we say all that but there’s still that doubt there.

"We’ve had a lot of success individually – Delly [Matthew Dellavedova], Patty [Mills] and myself have won a ring [in the NBA] and been part of what it takes to be at the pinnacle in this sport.

"And we have a lot of guys who play hard and enjoy being around each other and when you have that it works wonders for you."

The Boomers' win keeps hopes alive for Australia to gain another team sport medal after the Opals were eliminated in a heartbreaking 73-71 loss to Serbia and the elimination of Australia's hockey, water polo and the men's rugby sevens team from the medal rounds.

The women's rugby sevens gold remains the only team sport medal Australia has won in Rio.
