Australian trap shooter Catherine Skinner has claimed gold, narrowly beating New Zealand's Natalie Rooney.

In a tight final Skinner finished with 12/15 just beating Rooney's 11/15.

Laetisha Scanlon finished fifth in the same event on her Olympic debut.

Her win takes Australia's gold medal tally to three, with two gold already in the pool.

More could possibly follow later today, Australia time, with more Australians to feature in some key events, including the men's 4x100 metre relay.
