Two Year 7 schoolgirls at a top Victorian state school have been busted dealing marijuana on school grounds.
The Melbourne Girls College students, aged 12 or 13, were dealing marijuana on school grounds when they were caught by teachers and reported to police, News Corp Australia reported on Tuesday.
School principal Karen Money said drug-related incidents were "extremely rare" and would not be tolerated by the school.
"We are working with the students involved and their parents to ensure the issue is appropriately dealt with, including supporting them to make the right decisions in the future," she said in a statement to AAP.
It is understood the two students have not been suspended or expelled, with the school choosing to provide the students with support instead.
State Education Minister James Merlino praised the school's response to the incident.
"The school did the right thing. Victoria Police were immediately involved," Mr Merlino told reporters on Tuesday.
"(Drugs are) a scourge on our society whether it's in our communities, in our sporting clubs, or in our schools."
Police confirmed an investigation into the students is ongoing.
Opposition Leader Matthew Guy said it was "utterly atrocious" to see drugs in schools and he hoped the school didn't try to brush it under the carpet.
