Hundreds of additional police will patrol the M-C-G during the entire Boxing Day Test in response to a foiled terror plot.
The boosted security follows the thwarting of an alleged Christmas Day terror plot to stage attacks at St Paul's Cathedral, Flinders Street Station and Federation Square in Melbourne's CBD.
The Chief Commissioner says additional uniformed police will be at the cricket ground working with private security for every day of the Australia v Pakistan Test.
He says the police presence will be boosted during the entire festive season.
Mr Ashton warned that police would also have anti-social behaviour and alcohol-fuelled violence in their sights again this year.
