PLAYER OF THE DAY: Petra Kvitova. The Czech edges out fellow finalist Naomi Osaka for her blistering second set, bagelling newcomer Danielle Collins. The 28-year-old won through to her first grand slam final in five years off the back of a near-faultless set of tennis.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Maybe some people thought I was a one-hit wonder, it was a fluke. Clearly none of this has been a fluke," Collins, due to become new world No.23 after a fairytale run at her sixth grand slam. She had not won a match at a major in five previous efforts.
STAT OF THE DAY: Osaka can follow in the footsteps of one of her idol's many achievements by winning Saturday's final; the 21-year-old would be the first woman to win back-to-back majors since Serena Williams held every slam from the 2014 US Open to 2015 Wimbledon.
TOURNAMENT SUMMARY: The women's final is set and will be a beauty; the rampaging Czech and the ball-striking phenomenon from Japan. Osaka narrowly edged Karolina Pliskova in three sets to set up a first meeting with Kvitova in the Melbourne Park final.
