Three Italian grandmothers have attracted widespread praise after a photo of the group nursing three migrant children was shared on social media.

Taken in the community of Campoli del Monte Taburno, an hour northeast of Naples, the image shows the trio holding the group of African migrant children on their laps.

The region is known as a welcoming centre for migrants who travel from Africa by crossing the Mediterranean.

The highly-praised photo was initially published on a Facebook group titled “You’re from Campoli if…” and despite touting only several hundred members, the group’s happy snap quickly courted fans across the world.

“This is the Italy I Love” wrote one pro-Refugee support page on Twitter.
